Alex update {27 months}

The boy has been a tad neglected over here lately.  So I thought it was overdue for a post on his royal cuteness.  He has changed so much in the last 6 months.  Other than of course becoming a big brother, he is now in a real “big boy” bed, he has ditched the pacifier, and Thomas the Train has taken a backseat to Calliou.  Doesn’t seem like it, but these are huge changes, people.

Physical Changes:  After his last haircut several months ago, the blond is almost gone.  Its slowly changing from beach bum blond, to light brown (its kinda looking a tad curly too).

All 4 of his back molars are fully or partially grown in.  Thankfully, it didn’t seem to bother him other than a lil bit of diaper rash.  He loves brushing and flossing.  Can you believe the dentist says we have to floss him?!

And lastly, his feet.  Oh his giant, wide, man feet.  After a good long summer of only wearing crocs, it was time to get him some cold weather shoes.  He’s grown about TWO sizes since the spring time.  I got him size 8’s and they work great…and have a little room to grow.  It took about 2 weeks to wrestle the crocs out of his grubby hands though.

Developmental Changes:

His vocab continues to explode every week.  The words come out of his mouth when I didn’t even know he knew the word!  This week, for example, was “Stop sign”.  No clue where he learned it, but it wasn’t me.  His stories have THANKFULLY changed.  There are new ones though.  The most commonly used is, “Mine room too noisy!”  This is what he tells us every night before bed or every time he wakes up.  Not sure why he says it.  His room is quiet.  Unless we have a toddler Long Island Medium on our hands and he’s hearing dead people….who knows.  Once he climbs into bed, his next phrase is, “Kittles mine arm like ziss?”  Which means: Tickle my arm like this.  He loooooves to have his limbs gently tickled.  That one was my fault for introducing him to that, so I can only be mad at myself.  When talking about going to sleep, he also says, “Nigh-Nigh, two o’clock.”  This came about when I instructed Evelyn and my Mom to wake him up at 2:00 in hopes it would make him sleep better.  I thought if his nap was shorter, he’d be more willing to crash at 7:30.  It failed miserably.  But he still talks about it.  And lastly, he mimics our phrase “One day…”  As in the beginning of the stories we read to him every night.  Henry makes up tales about a character named Baxter the Bear and it always begins with, “One day, Baxter the Bear….”  So now, Alex will sometimes answer our questions with, “hmmmm, maybe one day, Mom.”  It hard to hear that and keep a straight face.  Even when you are asking him to get in the bath for the 5,000th time.

He continues to be very sweet to his sister.  There have only been a few times that he’s asked me, “Put Bee-Bee on couch, Mom”.  Other than that, he hasn’t been too jealous of her or our time devoted to her.

His most recent passion has been Baseball.  Ohhhhh, the mitt and ball are always close by and he literally makes anyone available play ball with him.  I’d say he clocks in about 2 hrs a day of playing catch.  The kid sure does have an arm, but we are still working on the catching with the mitt.  Maybe by next year, we’ll have a serious pro-ball contender on our hands.  Anyone smell scholarship??  He has also mastered the art of the base slide.  He holds his mitt in the air and sort of falls on his side, while yelling, “I caught it!!”  To which you have to respond with cheers and excitement.

He still loves his Yiayia and usually has a few days a week at their house.  He paints, washes his car, picks me flowers, studies the squirrels, pretends to fish with fallen tree branches, among other cool things.  He even tells me, “Yiayia house, so fun.”  He has also mastered the names my whole family.  Yiayia, Papou or Pop, Nouna for Mari, Nana for Anna, TT for Theo and Dom for, well…Dom.  Ha!

He is quite the little dude and he gets funnier every day.  Kind, giving, polite, gentle….but alllll boy.  He changes so fast that I’m trying to take it all in.  That’s why I’m trying my hardest to update this damn blog as much as I can so I won’t forget a thing.  Alex, we love you Scooby!!
