Sometimes I feel like this year just blew right by as per all those cliches. And then other times, I say to myself, “Nope. It definitely feels like I’ve had two kids for a whole year.” Its been a lotta work but I’ll save my letter de triumph for next week when she turns one.
So…New tricks: WALKING. Whoo hoo! While I love holding my kids, I’m sort of over it at this point in time. Honestly, my back hurts. Bad. And I’m excited at the thought of not having to pick her up and move her every time I need to leave the room. Soon she can just follow me. The only safe place to put her and walk away is the pack n’ play. Otherwise, she tries to stand up in her highchair (heart attack) , tries to crawl into the bathroom (yikes. toddler potty full o’ pee), or she eating some shit off the floor (please don’t be cat food). You can’t leave her for a second. But her walking record right now is about 8 steps in a row before she lands on her backside or lunges forward into your arms. And then when you are yelling, “Yeah! Good job, baby!” she starts screaming to join in the excitement and begins to clap. Too. Much.
Here she is walking down our hall holding a toy tea pot lid in her mouth. She is smart and holds things in her mouth like a dog when she is crawling or walking. Carrying things WHILE you crawl?! Ain’t nobody got time fo’ that!
Words: She can also say yes, cat, & dada, although its mostly prompted by us asking her to perform. She has also started to nod her head yes. I kept asking her if she wanted more food and her head was nodding like crazy. And when she is done in her highchair, the arms reach up to the sky like she’s lookin’ to be saved by Jesus.
Likes: She goes APE SHIT over Finn, our cat, who graciously lets her beat the hell out of him. I think he kinda likes it because I catch him sauntering over to where she is sitting and just plops down in her lap. She is digging the bite size food and shovels it in so I have to give her small batches at a time. I have made the switch to regular old milk and she transitioned like a champ. Didn’t phase her whatsoever. She seems to have grown very attached to her purple hippo stuffed animal. If I hold her and hand her the stuffie, she hugs it and lays on my shoulder for a quiet moment to reflect and cuddle. Ah, the little things. I think the hippo is to her and the blanket is to Mr. A. Whatever works, right? As for her favorite toys, she loves my cell phone, the tv remote, and spatulas. Oh, and simply throwing all the toys OUT of the toy box. Not playing WITH the toys….just throwing them.
Dislikes: Teething, the pack-n-play, seeing her bottle and not getting to drink it IMMEDIATELY, and having toys ripped out of your hands by your big brother. Get used to it, girl!
Stats: Dont know lbs. and inches. I’ll find out soon at her 1 yr appt, but she seems to be growing like a weed! Clothes are getting tighter by the day and she is definitely into 12-18 month size clothes now. Feet are still tiny and skinny. The few shoes I have look like boats on her feet so for now she’s just bare footin’ it. Which is better for “still learning to walk” babes, in my opinion anyways. It cracks me up to think that she’s barely in a 3 and Alex was in a 4 wide at this point. I guess its better than the other way around.
Sleep: Sleep has been fantastic. Other than some late night poops that wake the diva up, its been full nights with no problems. No feedings…no paci hunting…quiet. Every once in awhile, she needs a little cuddle for a few minutes. Which is disruptive but kind of cute in a way. Babies sleeping on your shoulder is just about the best feeling in the world and I never pass up the opportunity to do so.
That’s it for now. Birthday part post is coming up soon!
