Evelyn the Great

I’ve been wanting to do this post since Evelyn joined us back in August, but found it awkward to ask her to pose in a picture with my children….until now 🙂  Where do I begin!?!?!

I found Evelyn on facebook.  Yes.  That sounds almost as creepy as if I had found her on Craigslist.  But I surveyed my friends asking if they knew of a nanny looking for work.  I felt better about this since at least there was a common middle person to maybe vouch for them that they weren’t going to hurt my kids or steal my stuff.  I had called to talk to about 4-5 girls about working for us 3 days a week, but most of them were students and couldn’t accomodate our schedule.  THANKFULLY, Evelyn could.  I met with her and the family she was working for and had that gut feeling that she would be a good fit.  She has been with her other family for about 3 years, and the only reason she needed to supplement was becuase the little girl Scarlett was about to enter Pre-School.  I quickly had her come over to meet Henry too and he felt comfortable as well.  So we tried her out for a week and a half  before I went to work.  I ran errands or went to lunch just to keep the introduction short.  Part for the sake of Alex getting used to her slowly, but also as to not scare her off by leaving her all day with 2 potentially fussy kids.  Thankfully, they broke her in gently 🙂  And they continue to act better for her than they do for us.  Which I guess I’m fine with because I’d rather take the brunt than have Evelyn dread coming to work.

You can’t imagine how greatly she’s improved our lives.  No bags to pack, diapers to change, or kids to dress.  The only thing I have to prep before she gets there are Chloe’s bottles.  Otherwise, she dresses them, feeds them, whatever.  AND, ready for the kicker??  She folds our laundry, washed the dishes in the sink, and my kitchen is clean when I get home.  I mean for all that PLUS the fact that she’s cheaper than daycare, MINUS all the daycare germs….I’d be a fool to let this girl go, right?

Alex still doesn’t like to see us go in the morning, but when I get home from work, he always wants to walk Evelyn to her car, waves goodbye, and says, “I love you! Bye, Eh-wen!”

Here is what I know about her so far…

She is a mother of two boys, 27 years old, from Mexico, has worked in restaurants, nannied a TON, I think her parents live with her, likes to go to the gym, likes to go dancing, and is a great cool.  She made us Tomatillo salsa the other day. mmmmm

Bottom line is that I love her, my kids love her, and if Henry ever gets out of line, I’m kicking him out and moving her in.  She has been a blessing to us since I’ve been back to work and its the best feeling having such a kind and gentle person to care for your kids.  And if Alex picks up a little Espanol in the process, I wouldn’t be mad.  Viva Evelyn!!
