I have tried something new with Chloe that I didn’t do with Alex. Homemade baby food. I tried ONCE when Alex was a baby and it was kind of a chore, so I gave up quickly. Now sure why I got a bug up my ass about it this time, but I really like the idea of making it due to how much healthier it is than store bought stuff. Less preservatives and all that. Plus, I thought that maybe real, unaltered food might help this one be a better eater than Mr. A. If he eats anything other than buttered pasta, we about die from shock. Sheesh.
So I went to the farmer’s market and got the first batch of Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, Apples, & Squash. Yes, I realize its all orange food (minus the apples) but I thought she’s like em. And she did. Its not the smoothest/creamiest food in the world, but it tastes good and she eats it up. That batch took allllll day due to 1,000 interruptions from thing 1 and thing 2. I pretty much just boiled the shit outta everything and pureed it up in my Cuisinart. Then I dish it up into ice cube trays, freeze it, and throw the cubes into ziplocks. Its not very mobile if you need to go somewhere, but 30 seconds in the microwave and you’re good to go. I’ve since made green beans w/spinach, pears, & bananas mashed up. Fruit has been hard because most of the awesome stuff is out of season, so I’m tempted to do frozen peaches at some point just for some variety.
I’m so glad I did this and stuck with it. Its healthier, cheaper, and it really isn’t that much work. And I’m shocked at how long one batch lasts! God, I hope Chloe appreciates my supermom efforts someday.
