We have a kind of dumpy patch of dirt that used to house some random bushes and a half dead tree stump. We cleared the bushes out last summer (more on the stump later) and are ATTEMPTING to grow vegetables this summer. We have planted 3 different tomato plants, cucumbers, bell peppers, eggplant, green beans, basil, & mint. The strawberries are alive, but not doing very well, so we’ll just skip right over those. We have been really good about watering and Henry is always putting around out there checking things out. The weather has been reasonably mild so far and I think that has helped their survival chances too. I predict that we are a few weeks away from actually being able to EAT something. Exciting stuff! The goal for next year is to have raised beds in this spot. Which means we have to get the rocks out and start our composting after the summer plants are done. It sounds like a ton of work but the end result will be pretteh cool. Stay tuned for the first harvest!
