My labor and delivery experience was long, but awesome. We had dinner on Saturday night at our friends house, where my water started to break around 6 pm. I didn’t know it had because it wasn’t the traditional “gush” that you see in movies. Even when I called my doctor that night to confirm if it was in fact my water, she said no! How insane is that?! But around 2:30 am Sunday morning, my contractions woke me up. They were already pretty close together at that time, so we headed into the hospital. After about 3 hours of consistent contractions, they admitted me and we moved into our labor & delivery room. I labored on my own for quite a few more hours and with no progress whatsoever..they gave me Pitocin and an epidural. I have no clue why women choose to do it naturally because that drug is freakin’ awesome. Baby Alex was sunny side up which offers the fabulous “back labor”. No bueno. But once that epidural kicked in, I was a happy camper. By this time, we are well into Sunday afternoon and after a few cat naps and watching tons of bad tv, I FINALLY got to 10 cm around 1 am Monday morning. I pushed for 3 hours before our doctor came in to help me out with some vacuum action. Once she arrived, I pushed through 4 more contractions and Alex was out! Thank you Jesus! I was a sweaty tired mess by the end, but I had a beautiful baby boy to show for all my pain and energy. He was born on July 26th at 4:16 am weighing 7 lbs. 9 oz and 21 inches long. He had dark curly hair, blue eyes, a giant cone head, and as soon as he came out pooped and peed. I think he was just as beat up and tired as I was. Both our families waited…or slept…in the waiting room until he was born and it was awesome to have them there to see him. Here are the pictures from his first few minutes into the world.
