I am happy to say goodbye to January. Alex was sick for weeks with a virus, then an ear infection. This cold season officially kicked our ass. Despite all getting the flu shot, all 3 of us have suffered though some kind of illness this month. Sadly, Alex’s virus caused him to lose a few lbs which now puts him into the 7th percentile for weight. SEVENTH. Poor skinny kid. So project February is to pump this kid full of butter, Paula Dean style. Not really, but I am going to let him scarf on whatever he wants within reason. You wanna eat 2 man-size pieces of banana bread? Sure! You want 3 bowls of cereal this morning? Done. Otherwise, Alex did meet all of his 18 month milestones. At first I was nervous about his vocabulary being too small, but the Dr. assured me, that he was right on track. Because I’m a weirdo, I went back and wrote down all the words he is currently using. Here’s what I we got so far:
Up, Outside, Cheers, More, Dada, Yiayia, Football, “Get Down!” (to the cats), Oops, Silky, Jump, Hot, Duck, Shoes, Socks, No, Yes, Uh-oh, & Bye-Bye, Ball.
He literally understands everything you tell him. Just the other night, we called my Dad to say hi, and the whole time we were on the call, Alex was pretending to make a fart noise and then laughed. This is because my Dad taught him to make a fart noise while lifting his leg. Crude, yes. But that kid will remember a lot! I’m hoping in the next month the words get even clearer. Hearing him say words on his own is just the cutest.
With each day my stomach grows, I am trying to teach Alex about what is coming. When I ask him, “Where is Chloe?”, he leans in to kiss my stomach. I want to get him a little doll so he can practice holding a baby. I’m hoping this might prep him a little for when she gets here. I’m also trying to slowly introduce the potty. I take him when I have to go and he sits on his while I sit on mine. He always wants a square of toilet paper to wipe his fully clothed bottom. But a few times, post bath, he went to the potty and peed next to it. I like to tell myself he’s starting to get it. My goal is that by 2 years old we’ll have at least one successful deposit 🙂 Ha!!
