In the fall of 1998, I embarked on the greatest adventure…college at Sonoma State. While I still make student loan payment on the classes I took, I also continued the friendships I made in Solano 504. I lived with Nikki, Missy, and Sarah. And a few years later, along came Kate. I can honestly say, these girls and these friendship are the more valuable than gold. Once we left college, we didn’t keep in touch very well. Nikki went back to England for grad school, Missy got married and moved back to San Diego. We were all spread out trying to be adults or something. Then Facebook blew up. Now we keep tabs on each other, stalk pictures, crack jokes in an on going group chat… you name it. We have recently started to do an annual over night reunion. We don’t all live close, but we make it work. This year, we went to Nikki’s in Santa Cruz. Its about a 2.5 hour drive from Sacramento and with children screaming and clutching at my feet as I’m trying to leave, I would have driven 5 hours just to have that girl time. Nikki had a full bar stocked and we all jumped right in. Mixing cocktails and telling stories. We probably tell the same stories each time we meet, but they are always funny and usually end up with us rolling on the floor laughing. Add to this manis & pedis, take out food, and a round of the game Catch Phrase it ended up being a really awesome visit. These weekends literally feel the same as when we were 18 years old. We can’t drink as much or stay up as late but its always like no time has passed. As I drove back home, I got a little teary. Not because I was going back home to my high maintenance children, but because it hit me hard what amazing people these girls are. They are so supportive, so kind, and full of unconditional love. I don’t know how I got so lucky getting paired up with this bunch, but I’m forever grateful. Cheers to many more years and memories with you gals!
