This post is another reminder to my future self that I rocked today. Even though my accomplishments were normal things and somewhat mundane, I still like to pat myself on the back for doing it all. Some days I don’t feel like I’m successful in handling work, being a Mom, and a wife, but in all honesty, I am. I just have to stop and look around once in awhile, as Ferris so poignantly put it. So here’s how the night went:
I hit the store on my way home to get necessities. 2 gallons of milk for the ever-guzzling, blue-eyed monsters. Lunch food, dinner fixins, and brownie mix. And for the record, I love lugging gallons of milk from the store. Its what I imagine hell to look like. I get home, unload the bags, check the mail, and kick off my shoes. I cooked TWO dinners for me and the kids. Henry worked late so I had to do this all solo. Hate that. I made green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, and blueberries for Chloe. Which means a shit ton of chopping them into pea size bites. Hate that too. Then I made angel hair pasta with sauce for me and Alex. I burnt the sauce while I was trying to draw a bath for the kids. So I had to make another batch after bath time.
Bath time. Alex still bitches while I dump water on his head. “Mmmoooommm!” Dude, we do this every night. Deal with it!! And miss Chloe likes to take a bath standing up. What. The. Fuck. Its seriously like spinning plates. Wash Alex’s hair. Sit Chloe down. Rinse Alex off. Sit Chloe down. Where are the towels?? Sit Chloe down. “Alex, stop drinking the water.”Once I dry them off, I some how put diapers on them. Mind you, they are both running in opposite directions. I wrestle their jammies on. Not before Alex needs a band-aid on the owie on his foot. Then they both take a shit. Awesome. So I change C. Warm up a bottle while she screams on the floor at my feet. Shut her up with the bottle. Change Alex. WASH MY HANDS for the tenth time in an hour. Put on a show for A and put Chloe down for bed.
I clean up the kitchen nightmare I’ve left behind. Put leftovers away. Load up anything and everything in the dishwasher. Wipe down the highchair and sweep the baby food off the floor. Scour the burnt pot. Thankfully, I didn’t totally kill it. I throw in a load of cloth diapers. Pick up the bathroom nightmare of dirty clothes and ninja turtle undies. Mix up the brownie batter. (I’m gonna need it) I thought about mopping the floor, because lets be honest, it can always use a mopping. But decided to say fuck it.
It is now finally time to pour my red wine, eat my brownies, and turn on Game of Thrones. (our newest show obsession until we can hunt down S3 of Walking Dead.) Aside from the the moment I am greeted home by my kids, this is my favorite part of the day. So, how was your day? Hope you rocked it too 🙂
